Hi there everyone,
The Labor Day weekend is coming up, and I know most of us are looking forward to more time for rest or catching up on our to-do lists. Here at Comfort Elementary we strive to create a Growth Mindset for all our students. In a growth mindset, children believe their brains can grow through effort and learning — even when something feels hard. A fixed mindset is the opposite. Fixed Mindsets believe that there are limits to their learning and opportunities.
Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset
Fixed Mindset
“I’m just not good at math.”
“This is too hard.”
“I give up.”
“I’ll try a different strategy.”
Growth Mindset
“I’m not good at this yet, but I can improve.”
“This is hard because I’m learning something new.”
“I’ll try a different strategy.”
Mini-Moment for Home
Try This:
Ask your child: “What’s something that felt hard this week?”
Then follow up with: “What could you try next time?”
This is important because it helps normalize struggle as part of learning.
Take care,
Mrs. Irvin
