Highlights of the CISD Board Meeting - January 12, 2026

Dear CISD Community,

Welcome to our monthly School Board meeting newsletter. This edition brings you some highlights of the School Board meeting that was held on January 12, 2026. Our goal is to keep you connected and informed each month.

CHS Football

The CHS Varsity Football Team was recognized by Coach Rieken as the "Blue and Gold Stars" during Monday evening's Board meeting. Coach Rieken spoke to the outstanding success of the Varsity Team with the Bobcats finishing with a 5-6 overall record and qualifying for the playoffs.

Comfort High School Principal, Mrs. Sarah Womble, recognized CHS math teacher, Mr. Karl Christianson. Mrs. Womble attested to the excellent job Mr. Christianson has done with all his math students in particular in the EOC tested area of Algebra I to help students succeed.

CISD School Board Recognition

January is School Board Appreciation Month, and Superintendent, Dr. Yvonne Munoz, on behalf of Comfort ISD, honored CISD School Board Members with a special dinner and a certificate from the State of Texas, followed by recognition of the time, talent, and service each contribute daily to Comfort ISD and our school community. Board members received special gifts from campuses, students, and Central Office staff. CISD extends sincere gratitude to Board Trustee Wesley Holekamp; Board Trustee Larry Thayn; Board Secretary, Lilly Edwards; Board President, Charlotte Kneupper; Board Vice President Alison Judkins; Board Trustee Kristina Patton; and Board Trustee Shauna Stransky (as pictured from left to right).

Information Items


  • Director of Academic Services, Dr. Boothe, gave an update on mid-year testing including highlights from common assessments and December EOC testing results. Dr. Boothe informed the board of the upcoming February benchmark that serves as a mock STAAR test.
  • Health/Safety/Communications Coordinator, Emily Steffek, discussed the recent faculty/staff and student (Hill Country Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse (HCCADA) presentations as well as the generous donations from Soles4Souls and Ariat boot donation to CISD students in need. Mrs. Steffek reviewed the revision to the district's Active Threat for Schools Annex while also informing the Board of the upcoming District Vulnerability Audit (DVA) preliminary preparation and the opening of the Intruder Detection Audit (IDA) spring window. Mrs. Steffek shared the CISD Fall Newsletter was published and shared with the community. 
  • Food Service Director, Mary Garza, updated the board on working to increase sales at campuses and including healthy options such as a salad bar. Ms. Garza highlighted the incorporation of the Harvest of the Month into CISD meals.
  • Athletic Director, Jay Rieken, reported on Bobcat Basketball, with the Varsity team holding an 8-6 record and placing fourth out of 16 teams at the Bobcat Tournament. JV and Freshman teams are scheduled to compete in the Bandera Tournament. Coach Rieken shared an update on Deer Basketball team capturing the Consolation Championship at the Medina Tournament. One Deer player was named to the All-Tournament Team following an outstanding three-game stretch. The Deer currently hold a 5--9 overall record. CHS powerlifting competition starts in January.
  • Technology Director, Mrs. Jennifer DiGiacinto updated the Board on the progression of new security cameras, phones, and PA system.
  • McLemore janitorial services gave an update about the cleaning schedule over Thanksgiving holiday, the deep cleaning taking place, and the use of the 360 machine to proactively minimize health risks.
  • Operations Director Trent Wilson gave an update on facilities to include having fertilized the baseball and softball fields, painting at the high school, middle school, and elementary school on rotation as well as painting at the Bobcat Stadium. The high school had improvements made to the reception area. Mr. Wilson reported to the Board that CISD passed the annual Fire Marshal walkthrough.

  • The School Board approved the Resolution and Adjunct Faculty Agreement Recognizing Kerr County Texas 4-H Organization as Approved for Recognition and Eligible for Extracurricular Status Consideration.
