DID YOU KNOW?
Beating the Winter Blues: Staying Energized for School

Winter can make days feel dark and tiring, and many kids feel less energetic. These winter blues are normal, but there are simple ways to stay happy and ready to learn.

Moving your body every day helps boost mood and energy. Dancing, stretching, or playing indoors all count.

Letting in sunlight by opening curtains or spending time outside also helps everyone feel more awake.

Eating healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and warm meals gives kids the energy they need for school.

Getting enough sleep with a regular bedtime routine is just as important.

Finally, doing fun activities and talking about feelings can make winter more enjoyable. With healthy habits and family support, kids can stay positive, focused, and energized all winter long.

Academic Corner:

Middle of the year testing his complete. Thank you for your help. 3-5 Benchmark Testing will be in February.
Benchmarks:
  • Feb 16 4th-5th Reading
  • Feb 17 3rd Reading
  • Feb 19 5th Science
  • Feb 24 4th-5th Math
  • Feb 25 3rd Math

This is a friendly reminder that instruction begins promptly at 7:45 a.m.

If your child arrives after 7:45 a.m., please walk them into the building and sign them in at the front office. Arriving late means they miss valuable instructional time and the opportunity to connect with their classmates at the start of the day.

Thank you for helping us ensure every student begins the day ready to learn!

Kindness Starts at Home
February’s guidance lesson theme is kindness, and it begins at home. Children learn kindness by watching the adults around them. Parents can model kind behavior by using respectful language, showing patience, and expressing gratitude during everyday moments. Noticing and naming your child’s kind choices helps reinforce positive behavior and builds empathy.

Try This at Home:
Here at Comfort Elementary we are doing a Motivational Monday where teachers and staff can give each other a shout out. Start a “kindness shout-out” at dinner or bedtime where each family member shares one kind thing they noticed that day.

Take care,
Mrs. Irvin
