Talking Back to Worry Thoughts
This month, along with test anxiety, we are also focusing on changing unhelpful thoughts into helpful ones.
Students practiced identifying “worry thoughts” like:
- “I’m going to fail.”
- “I’m not good at this.”
Then we practiced replacing them with brave thoughts:
- “I can try my best.”
- “I know more than I think.”
- “I can use my strategies.”
Non-tested grades are learning that they can be “boss” of their brain by choosing helpful thoughts.
Parent Tips:
- When your child shares a worry, ask: “What’s a more helpful thought?"
- Help them come up with a short positive phrase to repeat.
- Praise effort and persistence rather than performance.
Take care,
