Highlights of the CISD Board Meeting - April 13, 2026

Dear CISD Community,

Welcome to our monthly School Board meeting newsletter. This edition brings you some highlights of the CISD School Board meeting that was held on March April 13, 2026. Our goal is to keep you connected and informed each month.

Superintendent Dr. Munoz recognized Boys' and Girls' Powerlifting: four girls qualified for the Regional Powerlifting Meet, and five boys qualified for the Regional Powerlifting Meet. One Bobcat qualified for the State Powerlifting Meet and finished 10th overall making him a two-time state qualifier.

Information Items

  • Superintendent, Dr. Yvonne Munoz, reported to the Board that April is "Purple Up" for the Military Child Month - Wear Purple on Wednesday, April 15, 2026; the Summer Leadership Institute is June 10-13, 2026; the TASA/TASB Convention is October 8-11, 2026; and the Comfort Education Foundation Golf and Bunco Tournament is April 25, 2026. Dr. Munoz informed the Board on the results of the Student Interest Survey and number of students participating in programs 7th-12th grade.
  • Director of Academic Services, Dr. Boothe, informed the Board of April being STAAR testing month, and the District will start to get results back beginning with TELPAS-Alt on April 7th and continuing throughout the spring into summer. Dr. Boothe indicated the next Bilingual/ESL meeting will be on April 15th, where we will discuss our plans for the Dual Language program expansion from PreK to PreK-Kindergarten next year. All three campuses are participating in the annual spring needs assessment. CISD is hosting another Family Bingo/Loteria Potluck Night from 4:30- 6:00pm at the high school on May 4th. Dr. Boothe presented to the Board an accountability update regarding TELPAS Composite scores and CCMR requirements. Dr. Boothe notified the Board of the Comfort 4th of July Art Contest—USA Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom: Brushstrokes of the Hill Country.
  • Health/Safety/Communications Coordinator, Emily Steffek, informed the Board of the District’s participation in communication data tracking for the April 2nd statewide Public Warning System test with no interruption to the school day. Mrs. Steffek reported the third TEA Intruder Detection Audit (IDA) is complete; the District passed all three IDA audits at 100% with no findings. Mrs. Steffek reviewed the continued communication on Bond updates as they become available.
  • Mara Garza gave a Food Service Report on Taher to include April’s cookie promotion, limited offerings, and Harvest of the Month: blueberries, peas, and mint.
Athletic Director, Jay Rieken, provided an update the CISD tennis team delivering a strong performance at the Llano Jacket Classic, earning multiple medals. Two teams earned Bronze medals at the District Tournament. Coach Rieken gave an overview of Baseball where the Bobcats are off to a great start with a 16-3 overall record and are 3-1 in district play. Softball is 12-16 and still in the mix with three remaining games. Deer track opened the season with strong performances in JV and Varsity. Bobcat track was highlighted with strong finishes, numerous personal records, and continued development. Boys and girls golf teams competed in four tournaments this season. Three individuals qualified for the Regional Tournament. Regarding Powerlifting, four girls qualified for the Regional Powerlifting Meet, and five boys qualified for the Regional Powerlifting Meet. One boy qualified for the State Powerlifting Meet and finished 10th overall making him a two-time state qualifier.
  • McLemore informed the Board of summer preparations including scheduling of gym floors to be resurfaced and summer cleaning and safety.
  • Director of Operations, Trent Wilson, gave an update on CISD facilities and grounds to include moving all tires from behind the Building Trades. Mr. Wilson spoke on safety and compliance regarding checking and maintenance of doors as well as an update on transportation to include an overview of recent replacements done.

  • The School Board determined the District's current budget does not support the purchase of new buses or the retrofitting of existing buses to meet the three-point seatbelt requirement, and directed the Superintendent to submit the required report to TEA through Sentinel no later than May 29, 2026, citing insufficient available funding.
  • The School Board approved the addition of Physics of Engineering be added to the high school course catalog as an option within the Science pathway.
  • The School Board approved the 2026-2027 Allotment and TEKS Certification.
  • The School Board approved Opaa! Food Management, Inc. as the District's Food Service Management Company for the 2026-2027 school year.
  • The School Board granted the Superintendent the authority to approve employment contracts April 14, 2026 to September 11, 2026.
